Ty Dolla $ign - Free TC (D)

I am not a fan of Ty Dolla $ign but as this is his debut album and he's a big name I felt obligated to listen to the full product. I did not enjoy this album. It sounds blunt, and it is, but it honestly gave me nothing. Music is like pizza to me, there really isn’t any that I genuinely dislike, and while the album isn’t “bad” there wasn’t a single track that I heard where I felt the need to make note of it. Simply put, the album bored me, and with it coming in at over an hour, it really felt like a waste of my time. It also didn’t help that his features read like a list of artists I wrote down to tell you not to listen to (Fetty Wap, Wiz Khalifa, Rae Sremmurd, etc). Lyrically it is uninventive and tired and the songs drag, “Credit” is a fine FINE example of that. Oddly enough the only bright spot, and when I say bright spot I mean I wasn’t counting down the seconds until it was finished, was during the second half of the longest song on the album, “Miracle/ Wherever”. To put it plainly, there is just better music out there. If Ty is your thing then do what you gotta do, but I can’t hang. I’m sorry if I seem bitter, in LA Times Sunday paper (yes, I read the newspaper; I wear a tweed sport coat and smoke a pipe while I do it too!) the cover article in the Arts & Books section was about Ty and the author had the audacity to claim that Ty and his sometimes collaborator DJ Mustard have, “helped redefine West Coast hip-hop the same way Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg did in the early ’90’s alongside Nate Dogg (to whom he’s often compared)”. NO. NOPE. Not having that. I realize he’s worked with a lot of big names and carries influence but "redefine"? Nah. Forever nah. Sorry, can’t. Peace. Also I'm not going to post a song because I just...don't care. Double peace. Here's this though...
