While I know this is a space usually reserved for what I'm listening to outside of new releases, sometimes there is SO much new music flowing in that I don't really have a choice, and the older stuff I have been listening to are sounds I've mentioned before, artists or albums I could talk about every week (...movie scores, Mree, Punch Brothers, etc.).
With this post I'm just going to pick a single to represent each of the albums I've been listening to the past few weeks, a handful of which might get a full review. Then you can decide for yourself if you want to listen further rather than waiting forever and ever amen for me to provide you with super convincing evidence when I use all the best words to tell you why you should tooootally be checking this HOT track out, hav u heard this artist? Doubtful.
Also I didn't include Alicia Keys' HERE because I had her in last week's post (read here curious minds!), but yes, I'm still listening and still appreciating. But enough rambling, read below, enjoy, send me flattery, fill my heart, overwhelm me with gifts that show you know the REAL me; all good things my friends, all good things.
This Beautiful Game
For those unfamiliar with Vulfpeck, all I can say is, this is what you've been missing. Go see them live, it's next level fun.
This Is What It's Like
While you've definitely heard one of their singles (if you don't know which one I'm talking about, it's "Drive"), they just released their debut EP towards the end of last month and I dig it.
One of the few times the group sounds exactly how you might think. With their 60's/ &70's psychadelic, soul/funk/electro grooves, they hit the spot, if the spot is a retro house party.
Ólafur is one of the more unique voices who's emerged on the classical scene these past few years, creating moving and atmospheric pieces that rival that of any top composer working today.
The Shacks EP
Laid back beach vibes all around. Normally I'd say throw this on when you need to think of summer, but for us southern Californians, it's still 90°, so just...listen?
Fall weather vibes. Calming, but not sleep inducing. His voice mirrors a pleasant whisper, while the monotony in tone hypnotizes, rather than bores. Try it out.
Black America Again
There's a lot to say, but for now, just this; Common is a poet of the people, and this is one of his best.
Warm vocals and futuristic tones fuel this electro-pop debut from Rosemary. Though this isn't a debut as much as it's a rebirth. To anyone that listened to her before, this is the artist formerly known as Rosie June ("Good News" is a jam if you can find it).
Long Live The Angels
I've mentioned her multiple times, and you can expect a full review of this album. Emeli's pop/ R&B prowess seems never ending. I love her. I can't wait to tell you all why. As for now...
A Tribe Called Quest
We got it from Here... Thank You 4 Your service
Need I say more? Anyone who listened to hip hop in the 90's knows the importance of this, and to say they haven't lost a step would be an understatement.
