It's been almost five years since Busta has dropped a solo album and I'm getting a little restless (although there was the 2013 mixtape with Q-Tip The Abstract & The Dragon, which...if you don't have...FOR SHAME). But despite the extended absence, he hasn't left the spotlight, steadily offering his expertise by way of features, effectively bringing every song he hops on to another level. Still, it's a different feel when he comes crashing down into his own beats. Like Ghostface Killah (my number one) it seems like he's shot out of a cannon, coming into every track like a fire that can't be contained, and I can't get enough of it.
After hearing in late 2015 that he had a new album in the works (that was FOR SURE dropping in 2016...) we figured it wouldn't be long, The Return of the Dragon was on it's way! Well, 2016 is almost over and I had almost given up hope BUT now...now it's time. "AAAHHHH!!!" marks the solo return of Busta and I'll tell you what, it feels GOOD. It doesn't matter you like him or not, there's nobody like him, not then, not now, not ever. Whether it's the lanky Busta of the early days or the big bodied beast you see before you today, you're catching embers post-show.
With the assistance of super producer Swizz Beatz, Busta brings it old school as he flows over a steady beat, flexing his articulation and grit; however this comes at a sample size length, just over two and a half minutes. For those who think this is a subdued effort, this is just a tease. A little ditty to get your feet wet. You better believe he's got something heavy in store and you won't be ready when it comes, none of us will, but that doesn't mean we don't want it!
