Red Hot Chili Peppers - "Dark Necessities"

The first band I ever deemed my favorite. I loved RHCP from the first moment I heard them. They were the first album I bought with my own money, 1999's Californication, and I honestly owe a lot to them as a music fan. While I'll go into greater detail regarding my love and appreciation of this group, for now I'll just say that I am SO glad that "Dark Necessities" is good. With the loss of guitarist Jon Frusciante following 2006's double album Stadium Arcadium, they struggled to find themselves with new guitarist Josh Klinghoffer, releasing the uneven and often dull I'm With You in 2011. It seems like the struggles are behind them as this new track takes their classic sound into new territory. Utilizing Flea's bass without making it dominant, slipping in a light hearted piano melody, and now working to Klinghoffer's strengths the track feels like this could be something fresh for the band, which is no easy task considering their debut was over 30 years ago with 1984's self titled record. By this point I feel like you either like them or you don't, but if you're still on the edge check this out and see what you think! New album The Getaway out June 17th!
